Jonathan Pain

Jonathan Pain, an NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist and a Performance Nutritionist (working towards a PhD in the latter), has worked in the industry for over 20 years and worked with hundreds of clients in many different fields. Jonathan has also written and taught the Strength and Conditioning Degree Program at the University he studied at. Whilst looking after the needs of professional sportsmen and women, he has built up an impressive roster of athletes from a variety of sports.
Jonathan has produced national champions and podium finishers in powerlifting, weightlifting and triathlon. However, it is in the field of combat sports that Jonathan spent much of his career. Initially competing on the underground and unlicensed circuits, Jonathan sought out the mentorship of experts in the field of self-protection and then went on to cross train in the martial arts practicing the striking and grappling arts in as many disciplines as were available.
Competing in Jiu-Jitsu and MMA whilst maintaining a strong discipline of Strength and Conditioning and Nutrition, Jonathan established himself as a standout practitioner in his field.
Although persistent injury stopped Jonathan competing, he has since gone on to work with international standard amateur and professional boxers, world champion jiu-jitsu players, MMA fighters competing at the highest possible level and Olympic and Commonwealth Judo players. Jonathan has been appointed as Strength and Conditioning Coach and consultant to boxing’s elite working with Billy Joe Saunders and Tyson Fury as well as top UFC contenders.
Working closely with military operatives internationally, Jonathan has a keen interest and a great deal of experience in preparing candidates for specialist selection in military and law enforcement settings.
He is also Scotland’s only certified Self Protection instructor, mentored and trained for nearly 2 decades under Geoff Thompson’s reality-based combat system.
Competitively, Jonathan now concentrates on setting endurance firsts and has taken part in some of the world's toughest extreme ultra-endurance events. In November 2024, Jonny Completed the world's first ‘Vertical Marathon’ by climbing Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, a record breaking 32 times in a row, self-supported, stopping only to sleep and refuel without leaving the mountain over a grueling 15-day campaign.
As a father of 4 children, he sees it as a nice bit of down time.
